In The Team’s Words: For Postpartum Parents

We asked members of the team for words of encouragement for people going through the various reproductive stages. Here are some of our responses in our own words…

For the new moms and new dads

“Please don’t judge your worth as a parent by how much your baby weighs or cries.” - Dr. Jill Satin

“Learning to ask for and accept help is key! Also, every stage eventually ends so if it’s feeling really difficult, know that something different is right around the corner.” - Dr. Samantha Waxman

“Remember to squeeze in a little "me-time" whenever you can, even if it's once a month, it does not have to be a massage or night out, it can be a morning off of baby duty or even a shower.“ - Yolanda Testani

“It’s OK if your baby feels like a stranger at first - they kind of are! Remember that you’re both learning about each other and learning takes time.” - Rebecca Orsini

The postpartum period is hopefully a time of great joy, but it is also a time of great change which can be hard on even the most prepared families. All parents hope to be able to enjoy their postpartum time with a new baby, but there can be expected and unexpected challenges like health issues in baby or mother, colic, feeding challenging, sleep deprivation, relationship difficulties between couples or extended family. Postpartum mental health in itself can be an unexpected challenge that takes parents away from enjoying this period. Working with postpartum parents is the reason we started this clinic and it is our absolute passion to help parents during this time so that they can be the best parents they can be for their families and for themselves. We believe parents deserve to feel well during this time for their own sake, not just for their babies. When parents feel well, their babies can thrive.
