Family Therapy

Family therapy is a form of treatment that is designed to address specific issues affecting the health and functioning of a family.

Registered psychotherapist Yolanda Testani works with adult family members tackling specific issues such as poor communication, lack of boundaries and psychoeducation on "what is a healthy relationship".

The goal of family therapy is always to bring family members together, while focusing on their individual needs and wants within the family unit and how to use effective communication techniques.

We find that family therapy can be especially helpful after the birth of a new baby becomes the dynamic of the extended family can change, or pre-existing issues within the family can resurface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is family therapy available in-person? No. At this time, we are only offering family therapy virtually. Family members can attend sessions conveniently through our secure virtual platform and they do not even need to be in the same room.

Our family lives in different places. Can we still have family therapy? Family members must be in Ontario as this is where our therapists are licensed to practice. Virtual therapy is very convenient because family members can attend the session from different locations, but each family member must be located in Ontario.

Do you offer family therapy including children or teens? No. At this time, we only offer family therapy for adult family members.

How frequently do we need to attend sessions? The frequency of family sessions often depends on the individual's/families needs and the therapist's recommendation. Initially, sessions might be weekly or bi-weekly, then spaced out as progress is made.  Your therapist will have a better idea of the therapy plan after the first session or intro call.

Does insurance cover family therapy sessions? Different insurance policies have varying coverage levels and criteria. Some policies may explicitly cover family therapy, while others may not. It's essential to review the specifics of your insurance plan or contact your insurance provider directly to understand what is covered.

Can we split payment? How does the invoicing work?

Yes, our electronic system OWL does allow for splitting payment of a session between two adult family members.  After you attend and pay for a therapy session (by credit card or etransfer), the therapist will email your receipt to you. The receipt includes details such as the date of the session, the type of service provided (e.g., family therapy), the duration of the session, the therapist's credentials, and the total fee charged for the session. You can then submit the receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
