In The Team’s Words: Pregnancy

We asked members of the team for words of encouragement for people going through the various reproductive stages. Here are some of our responses in our own words…

For those who are pregnant

“The books you read are a resource but not the golden rule.” - Yolanda Testani

“You don’t need to be an expert about pregnancy (unless you find that fun)- but you might want to focus on learning about what to expect postpartum in terms of taking care of baby and yourself.” - Dr. Jill Satin

“Some people love being pregnant, others don’t. There is no right way to feel when pregnant”. - Dr. Samantha Waxman

“Setting boundaries around social media use can be one small way to reduce information overload and allow you to get in touch with your own instincts, needs and priorities.” - Rebecca Orsini

Pregnancy can be an exciting time, and it can also be a scary time, or a mix of both depending on the stage or even moment. Especially if you have experienced a loss before, pregnancy can be very anxiety-provoking. It is hard to think of any other experience like pregnancy, in terms of the emotional complexity it brings. On the hand, it may be physically demanding and challenging like an illness, yet it may also be exciting like a major life change like a promotion or moving to a new house. Our therapists work with clients to process these many emotions in pregnancy and to be better prepared to manage the emotions and challenges of postpartum. We strive to help clients to better manage their emotions and find more joy both in pregnancy and postpartum. To learn more about how we can help or to get in touch, please reach out.
